The new range of herbal teas from organic herbal expert, Pukka Herbs is great for summer.

Sebastian Pole, Pukka Herb’s herbal director and co-founder, wanted to ensure they delivered real punch and flavour and he gets my backing on that.

Unlike some herbal and fruit teas, and this is true for the entire Pukka range, there are no ‘fillers’, artificial ingredients or added sweeteners.

Three Mint tea is sweet and fresh, with a delicately aromatic scent.  Mint has been used to support health for thousands of years in many different cultures; it refreshes the palate and helps with digestion.

Three Ginger tea is rich, spicy and stimulating with ginger root, galangal root and golden turmeric root: a great mid-afternoon drink to warm up circulation, settle the digestion and uplift the spirits.

Three Berry tea is Pukka’s first ever fruit tea and – to my mind – it completely roars past any other fruit teas I’ve tried; the combination of sweetness and real berry flavour has made it my favourite for first drink of the day.

Berries have long been used in traditional healing and the combination of elderberry, blueberry and blackberry used in this tea guarantee a high level of antioxidants. Unlike other berry teas, it has very high fruit content, with 87% real berries, as opposed to flavourings.

Sebastian Pole used the ancient Indian wisdom of Ayurveda in creating these teas (see the interview with him).

Pukka Herbs now sells 17 different types of teas, some of which are stocked by leading retailers.

The Redwood Wholefood Company has been awarded kosher certification for its range of 100% natural plant-based products.

This will please not only those who eat kosher foods for religious reasons but the large number of people who choose kosher foods because they are perceived to be safer and healthier.

Redwood, the multi-award winning, ethical vegan food firm, is owned by charity and animal rights campaigner, Heather Mills.

Heather Mills said she was absolutely delighted that members of the Jewish community and her many Orthodox Jewish friends would now be able to enjoy Redwood’s animal-free foods.

“We sought certification because we wanted our vegan foods to be available to everyone, whatever their faith,” she said.

Redwood was recently named the UK’s most ethical vegetarian foods supplier for the fifth year running. It secured the certification from the Manchester Beth Din, one of the leading kosher certifying agencies in Europe.

It is believed to be one of the first times that a UK manufacturer of vegetarian and vegan products has undergone the kosher certification process, which took nearly a year to complete.

The Redwood range will be distributed to kosher shops nationally by Eliko Food Distributors, who are based in Enfield.

Among the many animal-free foods produced by Redwood are alternatives to meat in ‘beef’, ‘turkey’ and ‘chicken’ styles, fishless ‘fish’ and dairy-free ‘cheeses’.

All are sold through supermarkets and health shops in the UK under the Cheatin’, Vegideli and Cheezly brand names. In the US, they are sold under the VBites name.

Everything in the range is made from 100% natural plant-based ingredients so free from animal ingredients and derivatives as well as cholesterol, artificial colours/preservatives, lactose, hydrogenated fats and GMOs.

In a recent consumer survey of adults who purchase kosher food, research group, Mintel, found that the main reason people buy kosher is for food quality (62%).

The second most common reason is “general healthfulness” (51%) and the third is food safety (34%). In contrast, just 14% of respondents who say they buy kosher food do so because they follow kosher religious rules.
