A trip to Nyman Gardens recently brought exactly the conditions I have hoped for and missed over the last two years.
The huge trees just behind the restaurant and shop were a virtual wedding feast in white, exquisite tones of pink and the burgundy and cream ones had also unfurled themselves gracefully.
As a backdrop, there were daffodils and some azaleas and rhododendrons but the camelias had very largely exhausted themselves in the spring preparations.
It struck me yesterday that I have never touched on the goods to be bought in Nyman’s shopping area.
There were some excellent offers in the garden sale area in front of the shop, with drifts of daffodils in tubs making a spectacle in front of the white paling fences.
Additionally, there was someone whittling wood carvings; and there were a number of cute decorative additions you add to your garden if the desire took you that way.
Within the shop itself are a number of excellent books on gardening – you can get Head Gardener Ed Akin’s book at Amazon if there are no copies there – as well as cards, pots of jams and pickles, pretty gift ideas and practical kit, from secateurs to gardening gloves.
And don’t miss Nyman Garden’s special events.
In May, they include FREE bluebell walks, a Hot Jazz Garden Party, a Family Activity Weekend and workshops on crafts and stained glass.
